No one could have predicted how difficult this year has been. We face a global pandemic and are still adjusting to it’s impact. We face unprecedented levels of unemployment and people are lining up at food banks to feed themselves and their families. The suffering we feel as result of fear, social isolation, loneliness, depression, death, economic hardship and the loss of loved ones has rocked us to our core. And to top it all, we saw yet another unarmed African American man killed in front of our very eyes. People are angry today for many good reasons, but our African American family and friends have more reason than most. We will not tolerate racism. We must continue the work that the leaders of the Civil Rights movement began decades ago, and there is so much more work to be done. We have been fighting each other and destroying our planet for too long. Humanity is suffering physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. We are a species in desperate need of healing. It is time for us to grow up and embrace the truth of our equality. At Devana Salon, we are fortunate enough serve all races. The shape of our hair and the color of our skin has nothing to do with our inherent spiritual value. We are all spiritual beings who are equally blessed by our Creator. These bodies that we temporarily inhabit are part of the Earth, but our souls are part of eternal Spirit. Devana is a Sanskrit word that means “to be in love”. There is no higher calling, no greater action, than to be in love. In order to be in love, we must unite together. There can no one left behind. When we achieve this state, and I know we will, either in this lifetime or in a future incarnation, we will summon all the power in the universe and nothing will stand in our way. Let’s do it now.
