Erik
Erik Emblen is the owner and lead stylist of Devana Salon. He is a Certified DevaCurl Stylist and a Certified Ouidad Stylist and is the creator of the Signature Devana CurlPrint Haircut. He has been working exclusively with naturally curly hair since 2006 and is a master of the dry cutting technique and Pintura highlighting.
Erik has trained with the best curly hairstylists in the world. He’s received certification in the Rezo Cutting technique, and learned the Curly Hair Artistry method, as well as the Mizani Air Cutting method. Erik has attended the Vidal Sassoon Advanced Cutting Academies in London and San Francisco. He has also studied extensively at the DevaCurl Academy in New York City, where he learned advanced methods in cutting and coloring all curl types, including wavy hair, as well as the Art of Texture, which concentrates on super curly hair.
Erik is also a writer, musician and artist. He is currently writing a book about his spiritual memoirs called “Waking Up Wild: An Atheist Discovers Spirit”. He is the host of a songwriters’ group for which he writes one song a month. His chosen instrument is the guitar and his voice. He’s currently taking lessons in finger style guitar. Erik has also been a successful artist and cartoonist. His large colorful abstract paintings have been purchased by collectors throughout the U.S.
Erik is an avid traveller and nature lover, having traveled to over 40 countries. He loves to meet new people, see interesting landscapes, try different foods, and explore unique cultures. He also enjoys scuba diving and hopes that his next adventure will include a scuba diving trip to Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Erik enjoys meditation, yoga, hiking, and gardening. His goal for Devana Salon is to help as many people as possible to embrace their natural hair, beauty and spirit. He believes that Spirit created us beautifully and all we have to do is embrace what we’ve been given. In Erik’s opinion, naturally curly hair is a wonderful blessing. He’d love to help you embody this and to love your natural curls.
